MM 105: 7 Reasons Why The Mobile Marketing Tools Don’t Matter

I always get asked about what mobile marketing tools I use in my business.

More so than any other question, hands down.

Things like:

  • What SMS platform should I use?
  • What tool do you use to build mobile websites?
  • Can I white label it?

Here’s the truth. The tools don’t matter, and in today’s episode I share 7 reasons why the mobile marketing tools don’t matter and what you should be focused on.

The tools will come and go. Good mobile marketers—and good marketers in general, won’t rely on the tools but the strategies that get results.

The ability to adopt new tools as they become available is important but not nearly as important as how you use them.

In today’s episode we’ll specifically talk about:

  • The speed of change
  • The saturation of most tools available
  • The value of service
  • What the client actually needs
  • Why labeling doesn’t always matter
  • Where results come from
  • The power of your relationship with your client
  • How you’re pitching your clients wrong

Delivering a good mobile experience shouldn’t end with the restaurants mobile site, or your favorite blog or brands site.

If you build a tool that allows a business to engage customers on a mobile phone, you’re software needs to take that into account.

I recently started using Webinar Jam, an amazingly simple software to schedule webinars that piggy back Google Hangouts.

It makes setting up webinars a piece of cake but, the webinar registration pages are not mobile-friendly…

In today’s Takedown I cover how everyone, not just small businesses need to be thinking about mobile.

In today’s takedown we’ll specifically talk about:

  • What “mobile-friendly” means
  • How even software companies need to pay attention to mobile
  • How you need to consider your customers end customer

MM 103: How To Create Youtility Using Mobile With Jay Baer

MobileMixed_JayBaerAre you out there trying to help your customers?

Or are you selling them hype?

What if your customers paid you because your marketing was that good?

We frequently talk about the importance of delivering value to your clients and customers through mobile, and that becomes possible when you’re intent is to help them, not sell them just an app or whatever shiny object might be available.

Today, New York Times Best Selling Author, Jay Baer, joins us to discuss his latest book, Youtility. Why Smart Marketing Is About Help Not Hype and how mobile plays an important role in this new way of marketing.

One of my favorite quotes from the book is:

Your industry isn’t relevant. What matters instead is that other companies are embracing Youtility. And in doing so, they are changing the expectations of you customers whether you like it or not.

What this means is that, it doesn’t matter whether anyone in  your industry is using mobile marketing yet. Your customers are connecting with other types of businesses using mobile marketing which leads to them expecting the same from you. If you don’t show up…well, they will just go elsewhere.

Today on the podcast, Jay and I discuss how you can create  Youtility using mobile  and how it will continue to play an important role in  your marketing strategy.

I hope you enjoy today’s chat with Jay.

In today’s episode we’ll specifically talk about:

  • What Youtility marketing is all about
  • 3 ways to give real time circumstantial Youtility
  • 6 Blueprints to create Youtility
  • The importance of knowing your customers needs
  • How to tie those needs to useful marketing
  • The importance of marketing your marketing
  • How to leverage the people in your organization
  • How to view Youtility as a process, not a project (a lot like mobile)
  • The measurement of processes
  • How Phenix Children’s Hospital used a mobile help to help car seat purchasing decisions
  • How Columbia Sportswear helps customers in the outdoors by showing them how to tie knots
